Beskrivning

Old Carter Batch 19 — a small-batch straight bourbon at 119 proof, bottled at barrel strength and numbered by hand.

Old Carter's numbered bourbon batches run in small quantities and change from release to release. Each is a marriage of mature barrels rather than a single cask, and each is bottled without dilution, so the proof on the label is whatever the marriage landed at rather than a house standard.

Batch 19 sits at 59.5% ABV, four proof points above Batch 18 and squarely in the middle of the brand's bourbon range. The extra strength shows up as weight on the palate — the sweeter caramel and vanilla hold their own against oak, char and darker spice rather than getting flattened by them.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Dark caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, dark fruit, toasted oak and warm baking spices.
  • Palate: Rich and full-bodied — caramelized sugar, vanilla, dark cherry, toasted nuts, tobacco, oak, cinnamon and barrel char.
  • Finish: Long and warming, with lingering caramel, vanilla, toasted oak, baking spice and char.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why does every Old Carter batch have a different proof? Because nothing is cut with water. Each marriage of barrels lands where it lands, and Old Carter bottles it there. Across the bourbon batches that has meant anywhere from the mid 110s to nearly 130 proof.
  • What does hand numbered mean? Sherri Carter writes the batch and bottle details onto each label individually. It's a practical consequence of releasing whiskey in quantities small enough that printing fixed labels wouldn't make sense.
  • Should I open it or hold it? That's your call, but the numbered batches are made to be drunk — they're the accessible end of the range, released regularly enough that they don't carry the one-off scarcity of the single barrels. If you're deciding between opening a batch or a single barrel, open the batch.
