Beskrivning

Single barrel #95 at 120.2 proof, thirteen years old, bottled uncut and non-chill filtered in Frankfort, Kentucky — bottle 61 of 162.

Old Carter Whiskey Co. is the project of Mark and Sherri Carter, who built Kentucky Owl into a cult brand before selling it in 2017 and starting again under their own name. They don't operate a distillery — they source and select mature Kentucky whiskey, then release it at barrel strength with no chill filtration.

Barrel #95 came in at 60.1% ABV after thirteen years, which puts it in the heart of Old Carter's mature bourbon band: deep enough in oak to show dried fruit and leather, still carrying the caramelized sweetness that gets lost when a barrel is pushed too far.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is thirteen years a long time for a Kentucky bourbon? Yes. Most bourbon is bottled between four and eight years, because Kentucky's temperature swings drive the whiskey in and out of the wood far harder than a cooler climate would. Past ten years the oak can take over completely, which is why well-aged single barrels are selected one at a time rather than produced to a schedule.
  • How limited is barrel #95? 162 bottles came out of the cask. This is number 61.
  • Why is the Old Carter label hand-written? Sherri Carter labels each bottle herself, filling in the barrel number, bottle number, ABV and proof by hand. It's practical as much as decorative — with every barrel bottled at its own strength and yield, no two labels carry the same numbers.
