Beskrivning

Single barrel #65 at 123 proof, thirteen years old, bottled uncut and non-chill filtered in Frankfort, Kentucky — and one of only 133 bottles the cask yielded.

Old Carter Whiskey Co. is the project of Mark and Sherri Carter, who built Kentucky Owl into a cult brand before selling it in 2017 and starting again under their own name. They don't operate a distillery — they source and select mature Kentucky whiskey, then release it at barrel strength with no chill filtration. Sherri hand-labels every bottle, which is why the barrel number, bottle number, ABV and proof are written out by hand on the front.

At 61.5% ABV, barrel #65 is the most powerful of the thirteen-year Old Carter single barrels we carry, and its 133-bottle yield is the smallest. Thirteen Kentucky summers take a heavy toll on a cask; what's left at the end of it is all there is.

  • Finish: Long and warming, with lingering oak, dark sweetness, spice and mature bourbon character.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How many bottles came from barrel #65? 133 — the smallest yield among the thirteen-year Old Carter single barrels we carry. Every bottle is hand-numbered against that total on the front label.
  • Why do Old Carter barrel yields vary so much? Evaporation. A barrel loses liquid every year it sits, and the rate depends on where in the warehouse it rests and how hot the summers run. After thirteen years the difference between two casks filled on the same day can be thirty or more bottles.
  • How should 123 proof be served? Neat first, with five to ten minutes of rest in the glass. A few drops of water will open the fruit and soften the oak if the proof runs hot for you — there's enough concentration here that dilution doesn't thin it out.
