The innovative process starts with fully matured Maker's Mark at cask strength; seared virgin French oak staves are then inserted into the barrel for a further finishing period in the limestone cellar. The result, bottled at 94 proof, is bolder and more complex - hints of French oak, caramel, and sweetness on the nose; intense, rich notes of vanilla and caramel on the palate; and a smooth, subtle finish, without the bitterness typical of longer-aged whiskies.
