A single cask Macallan 1997, bottled as a 25-year-old in 2023 by Gordon & MacPhail for their celebrated Speymalt series.

This long-aged Speyside single malt was matured in refill sherry hogshead cask #21603405, which yielded just 309 bottles at a natural cask strength of 52.5%. Bottled without added colouring or chill filtration, the refill sherry maturation should allow Macallan’s rich, characterful spirit to remain at the forefront after a quarter of a century in oak.

Gordon & MacPhail’s long relationship with Macallan has made Speymalt an important source of independently bottled, mature whisky from the distillery, often offering exceptional value compared with similarly aged official releases. This impressive 25-year-old single cask is a fine example, combining substantial age, natural strength and a satisfyingly small outturn.
