A superb old single cask Highland Park, distilled in September 1997 and bottled by Douglas Laing in January 2023 for the prestigious Xtra Old Particular (XOP) range.

Matured for 25 years in a refill hogshead, cask DL17099 produced just 277 hand-filled bottles at a natural cask strength of 48% ABV, with no colouring or chill-filtration.

Highland Park from the late 1990s are particularly interesting at this age, with relatively few independently bottled examples reaching 25 years old. Matured entirely in a refill hogshead, this release offers the opportunity to experience the distillery after a full quarter-century of maturation without the influence of a heavily active cask dominating the whisky.

Douglas Laing's tasting notes describe a really sweet and salty fusion of runny honey and cashew nuts on the nose, followed by peat smoke, blackberries and a spirited quality on the palate. The finish is long with malted barley, almond cake and a distinct oceanic quality.
