Craigellachie 17 Year Old SMWS Red Stag 44.191 60.9%

A well aged Craigellachie by SMWS bottled as ‘Red Stag’ 

Distilled on the 30th of August 2007 this intriguing whisky was matured in a bourbon hogshead for 14 years before being transferred to a first fill medium toast American oak barrique with toasted heads for a further 3 years. 

Bottling was at a great cask strength of 60.9% abv. 

This is a lovely rich, meaty dram. Full of red fruits, gravy, a savoury, sweet balance and some great tannins. Venison ramen notes, pine wood and a subtle tannic sinew make an appearance along with brown sugar, dijon mustard and salted caramel. A great value fun whisky packed full of character. 

One of an out-turn of 197 bottles.
