A 2013 Caol Ila single malt bottled in 2022 by Douglas Laing for the Provenance Single Cask range. Matured for 9 years in a refill barrel, this single cask release was bottled at cask strength of 58.4% ABV, without colouring or chill filtration, with just 227 bottles produced.

Douglas Laing's tasting notes describe sweet and smoked barley laced with coal dust and crushed sugar on the nose, followed by an oily palate with more coal dust, smoked barley and citrus. The finish brings further smoke, charred oak and a lingering coastal character.

Caol Ila is the largest distillery on Islay, with much of its production traditionally destined for blended Scotch whisky. Its tall stills and relatively clear wort help produce a lighter, cleaner style of peated spirit than is found at several of the island's other distilleries, making independently bottled single casks particularly interesting examples of the distillery's character.
