Big Peat 12 Year Old is an Islay blended malt Scotch whisky from independent bottler Douglas Laing, bringing together single malts from across the island in a marriage of classic Islay character.

Introduced as an age-stated addition to the Big Peat range, this 12 Year Old is bottled at 46% ABV without added colouring or chill filtration. The additional maturation gives a more rounded take on Big Peat's familiar maritime and smoky style, while retaining the robust peat character at the heart of the range.

Big Peat is made exclusively with Islay single malt whiskies, with the recipe traditionally including spirit from distilleries such as Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore and Port Ellen. The brand was launched by Douglas Laing in 2009 and has since become one of the company's best-known Remarkable Regional Malts.

Douglas Laing's tasting notes describe a clean, fresh, salty and oceanic nose, developing to sweet malt dried over peat. The palate brings charred oak, chimney smoke, rock pools and summer tar, followed by a long and lingering finish with brown sugar, bonfire ashes and a real phenolic quality.
