A superb old Ben Nevis single malt, distilled in November 1996 and bottled by Douglas Laing in June 2022 for the Xtra Old Particular (XOP) range. Matured for 25 years in a refill hogshead, single cask DL15941 yielded just 229 hand-filled bottles at a natural cask strength of 52.4%.This particular example is Bottle No. 1 of 229.

Ben Nevis from the mid-1990s has become particularly sought after among whisky enthusiasts, with independently bottled examples prized for the distillery's characteristically weighty, richly textured spirit. Long maturation in a relatively restrained refill hogshead makes this an especially interesting example, allowing more than two decades of development without overwhelming the underlying distillery character.

As with other XOP releases, this was bottled without colouring or chill filtration.

Douglas Laing's tasting notes describe stewed strawberry and apple strudel on the nose, alongside malt, spices and vanilla. The palate is deeply spiced with marmalade, barley sugar, honey, malt and a touch of oil, followed by a finish of crème caramel, lime and fresh chocolate and crunchy barley.
