Distilled at Aberfeldy in September 2012 and matured for 10 years before being bottled by Douglas Laing in December 2022 as part of their Provenance range.
This Highland single malt was drawn from a single refill barrel, cask DL16905, yielding 308 bottles at 46% ABV. As with other releases in the Provenance range, it was bottled without chill filtration or added colouring.
Douglas Laing's tasting notes describe sweet green barley, pear drops, raspberry conserve and candy floss on the nose, followed by Scottish strawberry jam and clotted cream scones, with blackberries and icing sugar on the palate. The finish is long and moreish with toasted oak, warm butterscotch and Madagascan vanilla.
Douglas Laing's Provenance collection is designed to showcase the individual character of Scotland's malt whisky distilleries through single-cask bottlings, generally released at 46% ABV and presented without colouring or chill filtration.
Aberfeldy's spirit is produced using long fermentation and traditional wooden washbacks, contributing to the fruity character for which the distillery is known. Much of its production is destined for Dewar's blended Scotch whisky, making independently bottled single casks an opportunity to explore the malt on its own.
